FAQs
Does my sign-in method change how Claude Code is metered?
Yes. An eligible subscription uses plan limits; an API key is billed per token through its API account. Claude Code can prefer an active API key over subscription sign-in, so verify the authentication method before interpreting a reset message. See Anthropic’s sign-in guidance.
Why did Claude Code usage rise after I used Claude elsewhere?
Claude on the web, Claude Code and Claude Desktop share subscription usage limits. A long conversation or attached files can also use more allowance. See Anthropic’s usage explanation.
How do I tell a usage limit from a full context window?
A usage limit concerns your account over time; context length concerns how much one conversation can hold. /compact or a new conversation can reduce context, but will not refill a spent plan allowance. See Claude Code usage and context guidance.
How should I choose a model when allowance is tight?
Anthropic recommends Sonnet for most coding, Opus for harder work and Haiku for quick mechanical tasks. Opus generally uses more quota than Sonnet. The actual use also depends on task length and effort; compare your account’s usage after representative tasks. See Claude Code model guidance.
Which reset time belongs in my personal timer?
Use the time shown for the window that actually blocked you in /usage or Settings → Usage. Record the date and time zone too. This site stores your entry locally and cannot confirm that Claude restored the allowance.

Models & usage
Latest models and allowance use
Checked 23 Sep 2026Compare like for like: token rates describe a fixed amount of input and output, while a real task can use very different amounts of both.
| Model | Best for | API price · Input / output per 1M tokens |
|---|---|---|
| Claude Fable 5.1 | Demanding, long-running work | $10 / $50 |
| Claude Opus 5.5 | Difficult coding and debugging | $4 / $20 |
| Claude Sonnet 5 | Most everyday coding | $2 / $10 |
| Claude Haiku 4.5 | Quick, simple edits | $1 / $5 |
Subscription usage: For subscriptions, Anthropic says Opus uses meaningfully more quota than Sonnet, and Sonnet more than Haiku. It publishes no fixed per-model quota multiplier; Fable can finish some tasks with fewer turns. Dollar figures in the table are API prices, not subscription deductions. Model access varies by account; check /model and /usage.
