FAQs

What does Settings → Usage show for a paid Grok plan?

It shows the weekly pool used, a breakdown by product, the next weekly reset time and any Extra Usage Credits balance. Free Chat and Voice limits can reset on their own schedules. See xAI’s Grok usage FAQ.

Do Chat, Build, Imagine and Voice each have a separate paid allowance?

Paid Grok usage is drawn from one weekly pool across products. The share spent on each product depends on its compute: a short chat generally uses less than a long coding run or high-quality video. See xAI’s weekly-pool explanation.

Does an API 429 mean the weekly subscription pool is empty?

Not necessarily. The xAI API also has per-model requests-per-second and tokens-per-minute limits that depend on the team tier. Check the API error and console limits separately from Settings → Usage. See xAI API rate limits.

How should I interpret a Grok Bot event in the history?

Read its original link and scope. A record limited to Grok Bot describes that product; it does not establish a reset for every Grok account. Public event intervals are also not a personal reset schedule.

When should I set a Grok countdown here?

Only when Grok shows a concrete reset date and time for the limit you care about. Enter the time zone carefully. The timer stays in this browser and does not read your Grok balance or detect a reset.

What can I do after exhausting the paid weekly pool?

Wait for the reset shown in Settings → Usage, or use any free Chat/Voice allowance still available. If your account offers paid continuation, review Extra Usage Credits on grok.com or a higher plan. Credits are currently purchased on the web; optional Auto Top Up incurs additional charges and lets you set an amount and monthly cap. See the steps for each type of Grok limit and xAI’s usage FAQ.

What if Grok does not show a reset time?

Confirm the affected product and signed-in account, then check its own notice or Settings → Usage. Leave the time unknown if it is absent; do not infer it from public history. Follow the reset-time guide to identify the right window, and the limit guide if the displayed time has passed but access is still blocked.

Compare like for like: token rates describe a fixed amount of input and output, while a real task can use very different amounts of both.

ModelBest forAPI price · Input / output per 1M tokens
Grok 4.7Latest coding and agent model$2 / $6
Grok 4.6Previous frontier model$2 / $6
Grok 4.20 reasoningLower API token rate$1.25 / $2.50

Table: global Standard rates for prompts under 200k tokens; input prices are uncached. At ≥200k prompt tokens, long-context rates apply to the entire request: Grok 4.7 and 4.6 each cost $4 / $12; Grok 4.20 reasoning costs $2.50 / $5 per 1M input/output tokens (USD). See official API pricing for regional, cached-input and other rates.

Subscription usage: Paid Grok plans share one weekly usage pool across Chat, Build, Imagine and Voice. A short chat uses less than a long coding task or high-quality video. xAI does not publish a fixed model-to-pool conversion. Dollar figures in the table are separate API token prices; check Settings → Usage for your pool and reset time.
